This East Africa Standard gives the requirements for plain or tinned annealed and plain or tinned hard drawn copper conductors in the finished insulated cables. It deals with solid, stranded, bunched and multiple stranded circular conductors and solid and stranded shaped conductors, but it does not cover the following: conductors for use in coils of machines and apparatus; conductors for aircraft cables; conductors for telecommunication cables; conductors for radio-frequency cables; conductors for mineral insulated cables; and conductors for special design, for example, hollow-core conductors.
This East Africa Standard specifies requirements and dimensions for insulated flexible cables for operation at voltages up to and including 450 V to earth and 750 V a.c. between phases. The cables are primarily intended for use under the conditions envisaged in the Regulations for the Electrical Equipment of Buildings. The specification covers flexible cables suitable for operation where the combination of ambient temperature and temperature rise due to load results in a conductor temperature not exceeding: PVC, 70 °C for general purpose and flexible PVC insulation operating at maximum temperature of 70 °C, and, in the case of a short circuit, the maximum temperature does not exceed 160 °C; b) rubber, (i) 60 °C for type 60 °C insulation; (ii) 85 °C for type 85 °C insulation, (iii) 150 °C for type 150 °C, but 180 °C if there are no limits imposed by environmental conditions; and, in the case of a short circuit, the maximum temperature does not exceed:
This standard is applicable to lead- acid batteries with a nominal voltage of 12 V. used primarily as a power source for the starting of internal combustion engines, lighting and also for auxiliary equipment of internal combustion engine vehicles. These batteries are commonly called "starter batteries". Batteries with a nominal voltage of 6 V are also included within the scope of this standard. All referenced voltages have to be divided by two for 6 V batteries: This standard is applicable to batteries for the following purposes: batteries for passenger cars; batteries for commercial and industrial vehicles for normal use; and batteries for commercial and industrial vehicles for severe use. This standard is not applicable to batteries for other purposes, for example, the starting of railcar internal combustion engines.
This East African Standard is applicable to lead-acid batteries used for starting, lighting and ignition of passenger automobiles and light commercial vehicles with a nominal voltage of 12 V fastened to the vehicles by means of ledges on the long sides of the battery case (standard fastening). Since other methods of fastening the batteries are at present in use, two alternative admissible means are also specified. The object of the present standard is to specify; the main dimensions of starter batteries of four standard series; the location of the positive and negative terminals with respect to the fastening system; the dimensions of tapered terminals of starter batteries; and the marking of the polarity
This Part of this East African Standard specifies the physical and electrical requirements for the types PVC insulation and sheaths of electric cables given in table 1. The relevant test methods for verification of compliance are given in other parts of this standard
This Part 2 of this East African Standard specifies the methods for measuring the thickness and overall dimensions and for determining the mechanical properties of PVC insulating and sheathing materials of electric cables and cords for power distribution and telecommunications covered in Part 1
This Part 3 of this East African Standard gives thermal ageing methods which apply to PVC insulating and sheathing materials of electric cables and cords for power distribution and telecommunications covered in Part 1
This Part 4 of this East African Standard specifies the methods for loss of mass test and thermal stability test which apply to PVC insulating and sheathing materials of electric cables and cords for power distribution and telecommunications covered in Part 1
This Part 5 of this East African Standard specifies the methods of pressure test at high temperature and of tests for resistance to cracking which apply to PVC insulating and sheathing materials of electric cables and cords for power distribution and telecommunications covered in Part 1
This Part 6 of this East African Standard specifies the methods of tests at low temperature which apply to PVC insulting and sheathing materials of electric cables and cords for power distribution and telecommunications covered in Part 1
This Part 7 of this East African Standard specifies the method of hot deformation test which applies to PVC insulating and sheathing materials of electric cables and cords for power distribution and telecommunications covered in Part 1
This East African Standard specifies requirements and methods of sampling and test for junction boxes of surface or flush mounting types for use in fixed wiring installations. This East African Standard applies to junction boxes used in a.c. and d.c. circuits where the rated voltage does not exceed 250 V and where the conductors are not subject to mechanical tension in normal use. It covers junction boxes having fixed terminals with capacity for cable conductors up to 10 mm2. It does not apply to junction boxes for use in conditions where special protection against the ingress of dust or moisture is required
This East African Standard specifies requirements for plain flexible conduits, made of PVC material, or any other suitable material .The conduits are intended for the mechanical protection of insulated electrical conductors, where flexibility during use is required. It specifies all the internationally agreed sizes up to 50 mm diameter
